Benriach founder John Duff built the distillery in 1898 on the site of the old Riach farm in north Speyside. The water for the whiskey is extracted from below the distillery and is rich in minerals. This is one of the factors that contribute to the intriguing and extraordinary taste of this Benriach Speyside single malt Scotch whisky.
To produce Benriach The Sixteen, the spirit is matured for at least sixteen years in three different casks: bourbon, sherry and virgin oak barrels. This combination of barrels ensures that the flavors of stone fruit, creamy hazelnut and fragrant herbs subtly merge. The aftertaste of this whiskey is characterized by notes of wild honey and candied peel, which provides a wonderfully rich and layered taste experience.
