bread Pudding

This week the baguette was on promotion in the supermarket. 1 + 1 free. I actually only needed 1, but thought free is free. So I took that one too. Since I try to throw away so little food, I thought this would be a good opportunity to bake a nice old-fashioned bread pudding. Reminds me of my childhood :-)

This is what I used in ingredients:
- 300 g stale bread
- 150 g sugar
- 0.5 l milk
- 5 eggs
- 2 tablespoons vanilla pudding powder (from Imeperial)
- 150 g sultanas and other dried fruit
- splash of triple sec (e.g. cointreau)
- knob of butter (to grease your oven dish)
- 1 teaspoon of cinnamon sugar

Herbs and spices:
- 1 tablespoon of vanilla sugar from Le Comptoir Africain x Flavor Shop

Click the button and discover all products on the shop.

And here's how you go about it:

1. Start by putting the sultanas in a bowl well under the triple sec. This allows them to absorb some of the moisture.

2. Put the milk and sugar in bowl and put in the microwave for a minute and a half to warm up (lukewarm is good).

3. Stir briefly so the sugar is nicely dissolved.

4. Then add the stale bread. Pull it best into pieces.

5. Take a fork and mash everything into a mash.

6. Then add the eggs and stir well.

7. Now add the custard powder, vanilla sugar, cinnamon sugar and sultanas along with the triple sec.

8. Stir well again.

9. So. the batter is now ready. Now grease your oven dish with a knob of butter and put the batter in the dish.

10. Bake for 45 minutes in a preheated oven at 180°C.
You can eat the bread pudding, or bodding as we say here, either lukewarm or cold. Super delicious! For those who like it, you can add some crème anglaise to make it nice and juicy.

I am very curious to see your creation! Share your homemade bread pudding on Instagram or Facebook with the hashtag #BirgersKitchen and inspire others.

Enjoy & see you soon ;)
