Fancy a pizza, but want to eat something different from those pizzas you usually eat? Then try these Italian Pita Pizzas with real Flavor flavours. I have made two different varieties in this recipe, but experiment yourself with the ingredients you prefer.
Are you organising a brunch soon or would you like to enjoy a healthy dish you can share with others? Or looking for a tasty and easy appetiser? These Pita Pizzas are easy to make and guaranteed to score with your guests. I'm already a big fan of this dish!
Transform the salsa madre, fig vinegar, arrabiata herbs and prosciutto into a tasty Italian dish. Need some extra help? I explain step-by-step how to make these Pita Pizzas in the video below. And as a base we use... yes: pita bread! Have a taste ;)
What do you need for this Pita Pizzas recipe?
(wholemeal) pita bread rolls - or you can also work with pizza dough/ tortilla wraps
mozzarella - or other cheese
for the garnish: smoked chicken, prosciutto, rocket, olives, sun-dried tomatoes, diced peppers and corn.

How do you make these tasty pizzas?
We have two different pizzas in store for you. The first is based on salsa madre, sun-dried tomatoes and rocket. For the second pizza, we work with paprika tapenade, smoked chicken, corn and diced peppers. You can prepare and eat them together, so you can fully enjoy an Italian atmosphere!
Pizza with salsa madre:
1. Preheat the oven to 220° and make your pizzas in the meantime.
2. Carefully cut the pita buns in half and place the insides upwards. Spread some salsa madre sauce on your buns. This sauce is made from sun-ripened tomatoes and is a bit thicker than a passata. Delicious on a pizza!
3. Next, put some prosciutto on the tomato base and sprinkle a few pieces of sun-dried tomatoes and olives on top. Season with arrabiata herbs to taste (alternatively, you can use pizza or provencal herbs). Then add some mozzarella pieces. To give the mozzarella some flavour, I put a little salt and herbs on top.
TIP: Smear olive oil on your baking tray where you will put the pizzas. This will make your pizza a little crispier.
4. Place the Pita Pizzas in a preheated oven at 220°C for 8-10 minutes.
5. Top your pizzas with arugula, olive oil and (fig) balsamic vinegar.
Pizza with paprika tapenade:
1. Preheat the oven to 220° and make your pizzas in the meantime.
2. Carefully cut the pita buns in half and place the insides upwards. Spread the paprika tapenade on your buns. You can also choose a courgette or aubergine tapenade if you want a different flavour.
3. Next, put some pieces of smoked chicken on your pizza. Again, you can choose another kind of meat, such as ham, chorizo or salami. Above all, use whatever ingredients you like best!
4. Sprinkle some corn and diced peppers on the pizza and season with our pizza spices. For a spicy touch, you can also use arrabiatta herbs. And the classic provencal herbs always do great on pizza too.
TIP: Smear olive oil on your baking tray where you will put the pizzas. This will make your pizza a little crispier.
5. Place the Pita Pizzas in a preheated oven at 220°C for 8-10 minutes.
Call your guests to the table and feast away :D
