From Gordon & MacPhail’s Discovery Range, Bunnahabhain 10 Years Old is a robust single malt whisky with a strong smoky character, sourced from the west coast of Islay. Meticulously matured for 10 years, this whisky strikes the perfect balance between heavy peat smoke and sweet, fruity notes. With a full, complex flavour characterised by hints of vanilla, toffee, fruitcake and subtle sea salt accents, this is a whisky that will delight lovers of peat and fruity influences alike. The finish is rich and smoky, with refreshing citrus nuances that evolve into a smouldering campfire.
Tasting notes:
- On the nose: soft notes of vanilla and creamy toffee, accompanied by a subtle fruitcake aroma. The peat smoke is present but soft and well integrated, and is refreshed by a salty sea-salt character reminiscent of the rugged Islay coastline.
- On the palate: A powerful combination of smoky peat and sweet flavours. Zesty lemon and candied lime provide a vibrant freshness, while the smoky notes develop into a richer, deeper flavour of liquorice and matured bonfire ash. The peat is intense, but perfectly balanced by the fruity sweetness and hints of caramelised toffee.
- Finish: Long and warming, with a lingering smokiness reminiscent of smouldering campfire wood. Zesty citrus and a hint of licorice linger on the tongue, making for a fresh and satisfying finish.
