Rhum agricole from Martinique, made by renowned distillers Rhum JM, who grow their own sugar cane for their spirits. The VSOP is a tasty expression that has been aged for three years in re-fired Bourbon barrels. After this it is finished for another year in lightly toasted barrels of new American oak before being bottled.

Nose: Butterscotch, vanilla and cinnamon. Lots of oak notes.

Taste: Oily and sweet with a core of roasted oak notes. Subtle grassy notes, brown sugar and rich toffee.

Finish: lingering hints of chocolate.

Overall: a good introduction with the sweet, grassy world of rhum agricole.
