You may already know Asta Maurice from its delicious cognac. But now Bert came knocking with his first calvados. And what kind! The Asta Maurice Calvados 47Y was distilled by Christian Drouin in 1963 and bottled in 2011, meaning that this calvados was aged for 47 years in the barrel and 10 years in the bottle. Curious about the result? Here's a small taste:
When tasting these Belgian calvados, many complex flavors emerge. Apple cider, grapefruit, dried garden herbs, mint, cinnamon, licorice, butterscotch, pine cones, hint of mushrooms, farmer's butter and chocolate. You discover them all! Every time you stick your nose in the glass, you discover something new. This Calvados is simply excellent!
The body is beautifully round and the attack is surprisingly lively. Apple sauce, toffee, cocoa, glazed chestnuts, ginger, honey, vanilla and freshly roasted coffee beans. I can't believe you can make such a complex and satisfying drink from something as simple as apples. Delicious!
The aftertaste is long, warm with licorice and herbs and a perfect balance between the fruit on the one hand and the oak barrel on the other.
