Benriach is a unique Speyside single malt Scotch whiskey that has its origins in the heritage of founder John Duff, who built his distillery on the old Riach farm in the north of Speyside in 1898. The mineral-rich water extracted from deep beneath the distillery plays an important role in creating the flavor of Benriach.
The long tradition of distilling three styles of whiskey - classic unpeated, Highland peated and triple distilled - together with a diverse selection of casks from around the world, allows Benriach's whiskey makers to explore the full flavor possibilities of single malt. This has led to some of the richest and most layered whiskeys in Speyside.
The Benriach Twelve whiskey is made by maturing the Benriach spirit for at least twelve years in three different casks: sherry, bourbon and port barrels. The whiskeys from each cask are then carefully blended to create a smooth single malt with a rich sherry flavour, layering the flavors of baked fruit, maple honey and cocoa. This is perfectly balanced by a lingering sultana and spiced mocha finish.
Characteristics:
- On the nose: rich maple honey, cocoa and baked forest fruits.
- In the mouth: Maraschino cherry, baked orange and hazelnut.
- Aftertaste: a lingering sultanine and spiced mocha finish.
