Benriach is an extraordinary Speyside single malt Scotch whiskey that stems from a unique whiskey heritage dating back to 1898, when founder John Duff built his distillery on the site of the old Riach farm in the north of Speyside. The mineral-rich water extracted from deep beneath the distillery contributes to the unique taste of Benriach.
By using a carefully chosen selection of casks from around the world, they are able to deliver the full flavor possibilities of single malt, creating some of the richest and most layered whiskeys in Speyside. This tradition continues today under the leadership of Master Blender Rachel Barrie.
In the early 1970s, Benriach returned to distilling batches of whiskey in the old, 19th century style, using smoked malted barley with Highland peat. The Benriach peated whiskeys have distinctly sweet and smoky notes, thanks to the use of this woody Highland peat.
The Benriach Smoky 12 Years is the perfect marriage of fruit, malt, oak and rich layers of smoke. Made from a combination of unpeated and peated spirit and matured for at least twelve years in bourbon, sherry and Marsala wine barrels. The whiskey from each cask is then expertly blended into a smooth, creamy single malt, with a multitude of flavors of ripened fruit, aromatic smoky sweetness and warming oak spice.
