Octomore 15.3 emphasises its Islay heritage with unparalleled intensity and unparalleled terroir expression. Distilled in 2018 from the 2017 harvest, this single malt comes entirely from the Octomore farm, just two miles from the distillery. The combination of heavily peated Islay barley and extended maturation in first fill bourbon barrels and Oloroso hogsheads from Fernando de Castilla in Jerez, Spain, results in a whisky that is both robust and refined.
Octomore 15.3 is an impressive expression within the Octomore range, with an exceptional phenol content of 307.2 PPM, sourced from 100% Islay barley grown on the iconic Octomore farm.
At 61.3% ABV and with a rich texture, Octomore 15.3 offers a taste experience that is both powerful and harmonious, with the characteristic peat smoke supported by notes of dried fruit, citrus and toasted oak.
Tasting notes:
- Nose: Smoked toffee and rich Islay barley candy come to the fore, with honey and fresh citrus complementing. Dried fruit, crushed shells and spicy peat smoke are supported by cloves, toasted nuts and a hint of coconut. Butterscotch, brown sugar and warm bread provide a deep, grain-forward nose.
- On the palate: Powerful, yet exceptionally smooth in texture. Rich notes of butterscotch and creamy vanilla dominate, supported by dried fruit, sweet orange zest and toasted oak. Sugar from locally grown barley and waves of dry smoke round out the flavour.
- Finish: Burnt sugar, coconut and subtle salty sea spray linger, with a lingering earthy peat smoke that beckons you for another sip.
