The name oregano comes from the Greek oros (mountain) and ganos (joy), so oregano is the ornament of the mountains because it is true that it grows abundantly on the coasts of the dry mountains. Add at the end of cooking to release the aroma, for example on pasta, pizza, bruschetta or salads.
Oregano tastes somewhat bitter/sharp. It is mainly known for its Italian cuisine, and especially for its pizza. It is also one of the main ingredients of the Provencal herbs. It fits perfectly in southern dishes such as ratatouille and spaghetti bolognese. It also goes very well with minced meat or southern vegetables.
