The story of Cuba's oldest cocktail surprisingly goes back to the years around 1580, on board Francis Drake's pirate ship. At the suggestion of the ship's doctor, the crew was given aguardiente, the precursor of modern-day rum, mixed with sugar, lime and mint as a medicinal cocktail. But it was not until around 1800, with the growing popularity of rum that eventually replaced aguardiente, that the Mojito was born.

Despite its popularity among pirates, the Mojito only became truly famous in modern times by the American writer Ernest Hemingway. He drank the cocktail at both La Bodeguita del Medio in Havana and in Key West, Florida. More recently it was James Bond (aka Pierce Brosnan) who drank Mojito in 'Die Another Day'.

How to serve: Pour Coppa Mojito into a tall glass over crushed ice, dress the cocktail with leaves of fresh mint and a wedge of lime.
