When the Luxardo marasca cherries are harvested at the beginning of each summer, they are left in alcoholic infusion in larch wood barrels together with some leaves and branches from the same trees for up to three years. When ready, both the liquid and solids are distilled in traditional copper stills, separating the heart from the heads and tails. Only the heart of the distillate is then left to mature in ash barrels. The final process consists of converting the distillate into liqueur by adding a simple syrup of water and sugar, reducing the ABV to 32%.
Crystal clear in color, the aroma is typical of marasca cherry distillate with a strong alcohol spirit and roasted nuttiness, while the taste results soft but sharp at the same time with hints of dark chocolate, vanilla and orange marmalade.
Luxardo Maraschino Originale can be enjoyed in many classic cocktails or neat as an after-dinner drink. It is also ideal on fruit such as strawberries, pineapple, oranges, etc. or as a seasoning in sweets and ice cream.
