The Royal Gin is a tribute to a special fruit: the bog myrtle, also known as 'piment royal'. This small fruit, which can be found in Bosland, Limburg, has a long history. In the Middle Ages, bog myrtle adorned royal bouquets because of its delicious aroma, and it was a main ingredient in gruit, a herbal mixture used to brew beer before hops became popular. When Ludwig from Ghost in a Bottle first discovered bog myrtle at a local gin distillery, he was immediately sold and decided to use this special fruit in his Royal Gin.
This spicy gin combines the pronounced flavours of bog myrtle with Mediterranean herbs such as laurel, anise and a touch of pepper. In addition, you can taste subtle hints of fruit and honey, which give the gin a refined sweetness and ensure a perfect balance between spiciness and softness.
