Torabhaig was built within the walls of an old farm - until a few years ago barely a ruin in a very swampy area - amid the spectacularly beautiful, unspoilt landscape of Skye, known as one of the most beautiful islands along the west coast of Scotland. The new Torabhaig distillery guarantees a combination of contemporary and traditional influences (such as the wooden washbacks to promote complexity in the new make). It is the first new distillery on Skye in 190 years, and is only the second legal distillery the island has ever known.
After the impressive restoration, the stills started running for the first time. In January 2017, now four years later, the first Torabhaig whiskey bottlings are finally available. Nice detail: Torabhaig is one of the only brands that mention the residual peat content (the peat content at the time of bottling, which is logically much lower than in the base malt) on their label.
